Exploding Geyser Creates Chaos at Yellowstone National Park

Hydrothermal Explosion Sends Visitors Running for Safety

A hydrothermal explosion on Saturday shot a towering column of boiling water, mud, and rock into the air at Yellowstone National Park, sending visitors running for safety.

The explosion occurred north of the Old Faithful geyser, one of the park's most popular attractions. Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom followed by a massive plume of steam and debris rising into the sky.

"It was like something out of a movie," said one visitor. "We could feel the ground shaking, and we just started running for our lives."

Park officials say the explosion was caused by a hydrothermal event, a sudden release of pressure within the geyser's system. Yellowstone is home to over 500 geysers, and hydrothermal explosions are not uncommon within the park.

However, this explosion was particularly large and violent.

"It's a reminder that Yellowstone is an active volcano," said park spokesperson Mary Tran. "It's not Disneyland. It's a park teeming with amazing natural phenomena, but there are also potential hazards that visitors need to be aware of."
