Earthquake Monitoring and Reporting

Earthquakes are a prominent focus of PHIVOLCS's work. Earthquakes occur when sudden movements or ruptures in the Earth's crust release energy, generating seismic waves that cause the ground to shake. PHIVOLCS operates a nationwide network of seismographic stations to detect and locate earthquakes in the Philippines.

PHIVOLCS issues Earthquake Bulletins to provide timely and accurate information on seismic events. These bulletins include details such as the event's hypocenter (depth), time, and magnitude. The data is gathered using advanced seismic analysis techniques to ensure precision and reliability.
